"la Caixa" of the future cash

"la Caixa" has presented to the media the new ATMs in the future.

This new Cashier is the result of one of the most complicated and largest budget in our country in HCI.

In the design process or cashier n will incorporate various usability analysis conducted among more than 1,000 users, in reference to communicative and functional aspects.

On Tracks confidentiality, I will use the information that "la Caixa" has appeared in a press release . Highlights of this new device are:
  • Accessibility, security and usability: As a result of customer research has opted for a design to expand its accessibility (single height display tilted) and optimize its usability (alignment of work units, clear signs). The model includes some of the new technologies, such as recognition of checks and recycling bills, and is prepared to incorporate other advances such as biometrics, contactless reading or Bluetooth communications.
  • browser incorporates : to work with natural language, helps customers find all services.
  • custom Cashier: Customers can adapt their shape and taste your use of the ATM, the screen setting in their regular operations.
In the next 4 years will install 4,000 new units

Have you had the chance to try the new cashier of "la Caixa"?

I hope it's the turning point for the other entities, to see ATMs as more than just a ticket dispenser. There are entities that are already putting the batteries, but others are still married in companies such as 4B, which impose their software and hardware inefficient, causing thousands of calls to the Call Center.

I frighten the costs of customer service organizations can have with these devices and think that they are available 24 hours.

Who does not has had a bad experience with an ATM user?

CHI 2008 from Florence (III ) CHI 2008

Wednesday was a tough day session to complete complex and major sponsors set up their show at the Grand Hotel Florence, but I will tell the end of the post. :)

Session 1: " Engineering case studies "

This plenary session focused on the incorporation of the Usability methodologies known Agile Methodologies.

The following slides we see a practical example of this fusion :

you not sound this approach?

short briefly the conclusions that the speaker gave us were:

  • The iterative testing minimizes the impact of serious problems
  • The cultural problem between developers and HCI experts, depends more on the people that the methods used
  • people methodology helps to interpret the end-user needs

Session 2: "Search"

Undoubtedly

One hot topic of the congress and did not disappoint with a will of interesting papers.

1) "The adaptation of visual search strategy expect to gain information."

As we can see Slides in this profound study technology Eye tracking has not made big news.
  • sparse information easier to read and search for information
  • users than looking in the first 3 pages

2) "Pick Me! Link selection in expertise search result "

This paper made me laugh, and that explores a question I ask myself often.

why when I search on the Internet itself, I get the same information that other search engines? I do often:)

Summarizing the study, the most demanded in the search for people is:

  • Profile: Personal data, studies, publications, etc.
  • Contact details and links to social networks

to see if search engines get batteries and improve this type of research.

In the other sessions soon to tell, I have been checking if I missed something, but are quite paranoid.

end the day of papers, we relax with the demo that people had assembled FaceLAB on facial recognition.

A Sample A Letter For Church Anniversary

summary from Florence (II)

After 5 hours of rebellion with Blogger (I promise that I'll change!) And with the continued failure of the WIFI network, I posted summary Antonio Rodriguez has done on this second date:

Day 2:

Session 1 The day of the Accessibility, IBM Handson Vicki gives a historical overview of accessibility, des from the beginning to the future with new technologies like Web 2.0 with the paper "The Once and Future Star of Accessibility computing. "

Images of the timelines on the history of the disability

for Thought:
  • had in 2000 600 million people above 60 years will have 1.2 billion in 2025 and 2 million in 2050

  • Today, 2 / 3 of older people living in developed countries in 2025 would be 75%

Session 2:

In the second session of the day we decided to attend a "Special Interest Group" on GIS Education (taking advantage of David and I are fortunate to teach in the Master IPO Lleida), but it was exactly what we expect.

The change was worth it, because we were in a very interesting presentation on the results of the implementation of a mechanism to encourage participation in a network environment business through reputation points and levels: Results from Deploying a Participation Incentive Mechanism Within The Enterprise :

Image on incentive mechanism

Results:

  • users know the existence of this mechanism and how to get the points (experimental group) showed a high degree of participation .
  • In contrast, the share decreased by users who know (control group)

Lessons learned:
  • High motivation of users for the points and the level of reputation
  • Increased contributions makes others more visit and comment
  • prevent future need not worthy forms to get score (eg with or duplicate posts simple comments to gain points, among others)
The fact that this meeting has given us many good ideas for present and future projects that are and will participate .

Session 3:

First sesión de la tarde nos llevó a conocer la adaptación de una aplicación farmacéutica para ser utilizada mediante pantallas táctiles, realizada por Christel Dehaes, Lore Nuyens, Human Interface Group, de Bélgica. El nombre de la conferencia era " Cutting Edge Usability Design and Smashing Graphics: The perfect Recipe for Fring up A Sophisticated Pharmaceutical Touch Screen Application ".

Cogiendo como punto de partida un mock-up realizado por los desarrolladores del cliente, la metodología consistió en 3 fases :

  1. Auditoría de la interfaz de usuario
  2. redesign and graphic design
  3. Usability Tests
NOTE: commented that each user test lasted 2 hours and performed 12 tasks. I can only imagine how tired the poor ended up users!

Screenshots of mock-up game:

New application after the redesign:

Although
in some solutions I have my doubts about the good results they may have, not to mention that it is a good example of applying the methodology to the redesign of interfaces.

Then there were 3 guys from Microsoft and we were surprised with the new Windows Live interface they are developing. The title of the exhibition was called " Wheels Around the world: Windows Live Mobile Interface Design ." Why wheels Around the World? You will understand easily with the demo video and the following graph:

video quality is not quite good but the only thing we could get.

The images attempt to explain the conversion of web content presented in columns, to a model based on "wheels" for the mobile.

The idea is simple and ambitious attempt to create an interface in accordance with these premises and objectives:

  • Navigation through a thumb
  • scroll Nothing
  • Nothing menus
  • Intuitive worldwide
  • Compatible with different platforms (PC, mobile)
  • Accessing your personal and web content from any location or device (PC, mobile)
  • The model must operate and mapping the structure of modular customizable web page
  • Comment
who have tested in United States, Japan and China with the following results among other comments:
  • Japan: 40% success
  • U.S.: 74% success
  • China: 76% success

Session 4

The first conference was on the study of web pages of questions and answers (Q & A) with the idea to understand where to find the best answers to difficult questions. Therefore, took as webs of reference for the study:

  • Yahoo answers
  • Live QnA Beta (Microsoft)
  • Google answers (with its three models based on reward - $ 3, $ 10, $ 30) AllExperts
  • Ask a Librarian (9 libraries separately)

Following
questions through different websites, the results obtained taking into account the different types of questions and the quality metrics reply prepared, are as follows:

Results:

  • The quality of the responses increases when using reward mechanisms ($). In this case Google with a bounty of 10 or 30 USD gets the best quality results
  • Yahoo Answers gets better results than the reference libraries and even Google answer when rewarded with $ 3.

The second presentation addressed the issue of sortings Card. What do you think is the minimum number of users to get some good data in a CardSorting? 10? ¿15? ¿20 ?.... because today I can say 0, if zero .

I have not gone mad, because 0 is the number of users needed to perform a card sorting tool with us today Christos Katsanos, University of Petras, Greece .

" Automated Tool CardSorting " is software that taking as input a list of concepts with a description, performs a semantic analysis (LSA, Latent Semantic Analysis) with which can perform grouping based on semantic relations descriptions. What this can work? Well, I raised many questions quickly, but have made a comparison between the same exercise done in the traditional way with 18 users versus made with your application and as you can see in the pictures are not far a result of another:

Results of the correlation matrix and the dendrogram of cluster analysis.

I leave a video of the show that taught us:

certainly expect an interesting software that perform many more tests for validation.

And this is all about the conferences we attend this second día.Hay some things we have seen and we will tell in future posts.

CHI 2008 Report summary from Florence

Today Monday April 7, 2008, has begun Congress of human - computer interaction (HCI) or Human Computer - Interaction (HCI), the world's largest with over 2500 attendees from 61 countries.

Photo: Antonio at the entrance to the Fortezza da Basso, Florence

Sponsors of honor this year, are sponsors as Microsoft
, Google , Autodesk , SAP, Oracle among others.

DAY 1:

The CHI 2008, has opened a interesting reflection on the evolution of design by MCAR-McWilliam Irene, the Glasgow School of Art, UK.

then erupts with what they call madness CHI Madness, summarized in 30 seconds for each speaker, where we see real showmen . I recommend implementing this practice to all conferences, you can:

1) Meet the speaker, he talks, very important!
2) Resolving doubts about some titles of the papers

think that every day there are 4 hours and 5 sessions per hour. :)

Antonio Rodriguez, my sidekick, wrongly selected as the first session "Do not interrupt me," university 4 speakers, we illuminate with statistical numbers and abstract conclusions of frustration and stress that cause disruptions at work.

Photo: Slide with possible interruptions in the work

I see that many universities are conducting studies, no aim other than wander through parallel worlds to the professional world.

Before going to try the culinary delights Fiorentina entertain us with one of the shows at the event.

Watch video:

After a good cappuccino, began the afternoon with a plenary "Design, Marketing, Strategy? Where does user reserc belong? ". Where members
teams Google (Irene AU) Yahoo (Klaus Kasasgaard) Ebay (Christian Rohrer, Elissa Darnell), Carnegie Mellon University (Shelley Evenson) debate on the relationship between developers and interaction designers.

Interesting to see how each company defended its ideals of better company UX.

session we had to stop twice. We started with "International user research in Product Development cycle " , which ultimately only the people have submitted Oracle, as the representative of IBM did not attend.

Here's a summary of images, as you can see, large companies such as Oracle, do not do things big in international projects:

And then we come to one of the shows at the CHI 2008 conference, "Touch and target selection, watch video, words are unnecessary. (Próximamente. ..)

The idea is to have parameterized all the components of a video to view it, and then move them at will.

comes a time to pick up pens and other items at the gala presentation of the exhibitors. They are all amazing!, TechSmith Morae, Tobii, UserZoom, Noldus, Goolge products, Oracle, Microsoft, would never end ...:)

continued ... with very interesting topics like the new interface for Windows Mobile
